Today it’s the turn of Land Rover to show off its version of Santa’s sleigh. Father Christmas’s go-anywhere 4x4 delivery wagon was sketched out exclusively for CAR Online – as part of our Christmas 2009 special feature.Submitted by Oliver Le Grice, Land Rover’s chief designer of advanced design, and designed by Florian Dobe, the Land Rover sledge is designed to deliver presents to all corners of the Earth. The Midlands design HQ has helpfully attached a spec sheet, letting us know this Land Rover has height adjustable suspension (presumably controlled by the brand’s Terrain Response controller) and a hitherto top-secret powertrain option: a particle accelerator.
ANYONE with a taste for speed might fear the sight of flashing blue lights in their mirrors, but nothing could be more frightening than this! British supercar maker Ariel has created this police-specification version of its new Atom 3.5 in order to support the Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s Safer Rider campaign. The Atom PL1 has the same 350bhp supercharged 2.0-litre Honda engine, sequential gearbox and spectacular performance as the regular car – with a 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds it can match most superbikes – but with the addition of Avon and Somerset Constabulary livery, aerodynamic pursuit lights and safety equipment.

The new Black Pack on the Land Rover Defender paints the roof, grille and headlight surrounds, wheel arches, Defender badge and interior facia in the manufacturer’s Santorini black finish. Privacy glass (a first for the Defender) is included in the pack, and ebony Alston headlining – as seen on the latest Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models – is added to the interior. Buyers will get a choice of two wheel variations in, you guessed it, black.
